After a few weeks, we finally made it to Toronto. Our stay here was also short and sweet as the accommodation was pretty pricey. Nevertheless, we did manage to make the most of our time!
We arrived by plane, landing pretty early so we got to our hotel about 7am. Unfortunately – it was super busy so they had no free rooms until after checkout (i.e from 3pm) so we had a ton of time to kill. Not to mention we were pretty “jet lagged” from the early hours flight from Edmonton (we tried to sleep on the plane, to save on accommodation costs).
The hotel were nice enough to give us free breakfast on our early arrival. So we got stuck into that, and then had a bit of a walk around Toronto while trying to stay awake.
A very helpful and kind offer
One of the customers of Zero BS CRM was from the Toronto area, and offered to meet us and show us around. What a blast we had.
We were taken around the main sights (the CN tower) and Yonge Street. We settled for lunch in the Brewery District (thanks Curt!) and had some beers and good times.
A spooky tour.. 👻
Next up, we booked onto a “Ghost Tour” of Toronto. Now, as a disclaimer we’ve been to York a couple of times in the UK, which is a town full of ghost stories and spooky history (Toronto actually used to be called York too).
While the Ghost Tour was good and the guide was adequate – he was a little too softy spoken to really be able to pull of the fright, and suspense needed to give a compelling tour (certainly when compared to the Bloody Tour of York (UK) given by the amazing Mad Alice – which we attended in 2016).
Toronto City Tour
Toronto is quite a spectacular city. There’s plenty to see and do and lots of nice areas (and, lots of Churches too, if you’re into that).
We also find that booking onto free walking tours is a great way to see a new city. The guides are incredibly helpful and you learn a bit of history too. Toronto was no exception here and one of our favourite city tours (although we did have a bit of a Keeeeeno, in our tour group).
Keeeeeeeeeeeeno (/keeeey, knowwww/) – definition – someone who asks too many questions on a city tour, and always rushes to the front of the pack, to walk alongside the tour guide. Often goes hand in hand with an over-enthusiastic nature with sounds of “woop” and excessive clapping at the end of the tour. Often does not leave a tip – even though the tour was clearly enjoyed.

Food, so much FOOD!
We absolutely loved Toronto and the food it had to offer. We found ourselves walking along Yonge street and just choosing places at random. We fell into a really nice pizza and pasta place, which sold a signature “Giant Meatball”… the table behind us were actually complaining to the waitress that the meatball was too big… guys… it’s a GIANT MEATBALL what’s not to love (and, quite frankly, what did you expect to receive?)
Next up…
Coming up, we’re going to drop in and visit a couple of familiar faces from our time on Safari – we’re off to visit Doug and Susan who have kindly offered that we can stay with them for a few nights. This is something we’ve seen all across Canada – Canadians are so friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome (even if you’ve never met them before). If you have, like Doug and Susan, they’re extra nice.
See you at our next stop, Wassaga Beach, where we’ll be seeing these two amazing people again!
